Musicplay K-6

Musicplay is a new award winning Canadian music program for elementary schools. (Awarded “Project of the Year” in 2001 by the Canadian College of Teachers.) Musicplay is a play based music program - each week features a new game from which the musical concepts in the curriculum are taught. Children love music games - this is a text that will have your students really excited about learning music!

The songs in Musicplay are chosen to teach musical concepts, to teach children about cultures around the world, to provide songs for performances throughout the school year and to teach children about Canada . Musicplay Listening Resource Kits

These kits include activities to have students engage in active listening, silent listening and intercom listening. Examples of some of the activities follow:

Active Listening : Children play rhythm instruments along with classical music; move with ribbons, hoops, bounce balls, scarves, flashlights; play cup games; draw the melody with sidewalk chalk as they listen. These activities where the students are actively involved while they listen. are included in the Listening Resource Kits.

Silent Listening : Children should also be taught to be silent listeners. The kit inlcudes listening logs, the STILL program (Silent Time for Individual Listening Logs), cue cards for level 1-2, and response journals to develop silent listening skills.

Intercom Listening : Intercom listening exposes your entire school to quality music by playing the same selection on the intercom each day of the week. Intercom scripts simple enough for student readers are included in the Listening Kits.

Each kit comes with a CD recording of all the selections, featuring recordings from the CBC radio library. The CD¹s include artists like Glen Gould, The Canadian Brass, The Toronto Children¹s Chorus and Tafelmusik. Scipts for daily intercom listening are featured - make music listening a part of your school day. In addition to the intercom listening scripts, the kit includes many additional resources to follow up and support the intercom listening in your music classes. These reproducible pages include biographies and worksheets on major composers, instrument families, music history and a listening notebook. Many classroom activities are included for each selection.
