Music Education
I began studying clarinet and musical theory in high school in grade eight. I continued to play clarinet in the stage band up until grade eleven when I began playing guitar and decided to switch to a musicianship and theory class which I completed in grade twelve in 1993.
I continued my education at Selkirk College’s professional music program in Nelson British Columbia. I completed the first year in 1994.
I have continued to study with several private teachers to this day.
Teaching Experience
I have been teaching guitar lessons Privately from home for the past six years. For the past year I have been teaching guitar in Brampton at Musicplex.
Jake's approach and method to teaching is easy going and fun. This has proven to produce the best results in students not only in their guitar playing but also deepening other aspects of learning and creativity.
I have also been lucky enough to be a part of many performances for kids with the intent to inspire creativity and fun with music. I.e. CBC Easter Seals Telethon, Family Music festivals across southern Ontario, As well as YTV children’s programming.
Professional Experience:
I have been playing professionally on the local and Canadian Live music scene, from 1995 to the present day.
Since moving to Toronto in 1995, I worked with several bands in the jazz and blues scene as a guitar player. I formed Jake and the Blue Midnights in early 1996 and since then the band has been very busy in Toronto and southern Ontario playing everywhere from club and festival gigs to corporate and private events.
